On the cover:

Clara Ann Gollihar (8).

What is your name and how old are you?

Clara Ann Gollihar and I am 8 years old.

What school do you go to (or what grade are you in)?

I go to El Camino Real Academy and will be in the 3rd grade next year.

What do you love most about New Mexico?

I love the outdoors and outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, tubing, and climbing. I love to climb anything and everything.

What do you love to do with your family?

We love outdoor activities that involve camping, boating, biking, tubing, swimming, and skiing. Our favorite lake is Lake Powell.

What are your favorite winter activities?

I love the snow and I am an excellent skier. I really want to learn how to snowboard, so that I can be like my mother, who spent 12 years on the US Snowboard Team, competing on the Snowboard World Cup circuit.

I also love karate/kenpo and currently hold an Advanced Blue Belt at Jeff Speakman Kenpo 5.0 in Santa Fe. I will be testing next for my Beginner Green Belt.

What is something that always makes you smile?

Doing Kenpo! The teacher always says to put on your mean face, but I can’t because I smile too much.

What are your favorite holiday traditions?

I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family during the holidays, especially Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Gary. For Christmas, I am always excited to visit the Forest Service office in Santa Fe and get Christmas tree tags. It is our tradition to hike the mountains and find the perfect Christmas tree.

What is your favorite thing about being a green belt in Kenpo?

Passing Off. Passing off is where I can show the instructors what I have learned in order to get my next stripe. After you get all your stripes, then you can test for the next belt.

What is something you're excited to learn or try this year?

I really want to learn how to rock climb and how to snowboard.

What do you like most about Tumbleweeds Magazine?

Tumbleweeds Magazine is awesome because of the pictures and the Things to Do section always has great ideas on things to do.
